Lafayette Franklin “Frank” Butler came to Lebanon, Indian Territory, before 1890 when he married Ava Orr. It was here that he began to write insurance. He later moved to Marietta, continuing his career as an insurance man. In 1916, he purchased the agency of John Randolph Hearn and established Butler Insurance Agency in Madill. The firm has been owned by the Butler family ever since.
His daughter, Effie Butler-Jones, entered the firm in 1932. After Frank Butler’s death on January 16, 1933, his son, William Clifton Bill, Butler joined the firm. In 1950, Frank’s son-in-law, Winston Smith, entered the firm as a partner, until Bill bought out the partnership.
In 1956, W. C. “Dub” Butler, Jr. joined the agency with his father. They ran the business together until Bill passed away in 1959. At that time, Dub ran the agency until he died in 1977. Dub’s wife, Mary Edna (Carter) Butler, took over and ran the business until retired and turned the business over to Terry Rushing. It is currently owned and operated by Terry the grandson of W. C. Butler, Jr. and Mary Edna Butler.
Terry began to expand the agency by purchasing Maxey Insurance Agency from Polly Maxey in 2000. That agency is located in Tishomingo, OK. Then in 2002, he established a new agency in Kingston, OK continuing with the name Butler Insurance Agency.
Terry graduated from the Madill High School in 1985 and 1991, he graduated with a bachelor's in business administration from the Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant Oklahoma. After graduation, he returned to Madill to manage Butler Insurance Agency, Inc.
